When the Spirit Comes

Over the past decades many fervent teachers and preachers have sought to inspire us to fulfil Jesus command to, ‘Go into all the world and preach the Gospel’. Sadly, very few, if any have shown us how we might do this.

A cursory reading of the four Gospels show that Jesus through his parables taught what the Kingdom was like and through signs and wonders showed what the Kingdom was like. His Kingdom is seen to be a Kingdom of spiritual power.

The following Learning Tracks seek to explore this theme of the Kingdom and the POWER dimension of Leadership under the following headings:

Session 1 — From Another Place
Wednesday July 21, 10:30 – 12:30

Jesus told Pilate that his Kingdom is not of this world but from ‘another place’. It is this Kingdom that Jesus sends his disciples to introduce to the world. It is a Kingdom in which the sick are healed; the dead are raised to life; those with skin conditions are cleansed and demons are driven out. It is a Kingdom that is ministered through the power of the Holy Spirit. This will be a practical session.

Session 2 — The Ministry of Jesus
Thursday July 22, 10:30 – 12:30

It is evident from his first sermon in the synagogue at Nazareth that Jesus saw his ministry as the fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah chapter 61. As a direct result of his anointing by the Holy Spirit the poor would hear the good news; the broken hearted would be bound up; the captive freed; the blind see, and the oppressed would be set free. We shall consider how we can apply this message to contemporary culture.

Session 3 — Tools for the Job
Friday July 23, 10:30 – 12:30

We shall consider in detail the gifts of the Spirit as taught by Paul in 1 Corinthians: 11. These are the gifts, which enable us to minister to others effectively through the power of the Holy Spirit. This will include ways in which we hear the voice of God and use God’s authority and anointing to bring life to others.
